Porphyra 20×20 Byzantine Studies Anniversary
In 2024, Porphyra – The International Journal of Byzantine Studies reaches its twentieth anniversary. To mark this occasion, the editorial team has prepared a special double issue entitled “20×20”. The name reflects both the twenty years of uninterrupted publication and the twenty distinguished scholars who have contributed to this celebratory volume.
Twenty scholars, one collective tribute
The 20×20 issue gathers original contributions from some of the most respected voices in the field of Byzantine studies. Their participation underscores the journal’s reputation as a vibrant and respected platform for academic exchange. We are proud to note that this issue includes essays by internationally recognized Byzantinists from across Europe and beyond.
A renewed commitment despite technical challenges
We sincerely apologize to our readers for the delay in relaunching the official website. Over the past months, Porphyra faced serious cyberattacks and technical issues with our former provider, which significantly hindered the journal’s publication schedule. Thanks to the commitment of our staff, we have now restored the site and are working towards a more stable and secure digital infrastructure.
Editorial direction and future outlook
This special issue, edited by Lorenzo Maria Ciolfi, stands as a testament to the resilience and vitality of Porphyra. It also reaffirms our editorial vision and our continued dedication to double-blind peer review and rigorous academic standards.
With the release of 20×20, Porphyra looks ahead with optimism and renewed energy. We are committed to expanding our reach, enhancing our visibility, and continuing to serve as a leading voice in Byzantine scholarship.
